Profile:
The forum is targeted at young professionals who intend to pursue an MBA at one of the top institutions worldwide in the next 1-2 years.
Typically, MBA applicants have demonstrated the ability to succeed through work experience, academic endeavours and extracurricular involvement or community service. Schools seek candidates with leadership skills, demonstrated teamwork abilities, intellectual curiosity, superior communication skills and a clear career vision. On average, MBA admits have 3-4 years of work experience.Depending on the school, more or less emphasis is given to diversity, non-traditional applicants (e.g. non-business, non-profit and military professions), and early career applicants.
Preparation:
Before you meet the admissions teams at the Amsterdam MBA Fair, you can check out the school websites (e.g. profiles, class statistics like average GMAT and degree of women or international students, etc.) on our useful links. Closer to the application deadlines, you can start preparing your application package, incl. application form, CV, essays, letters of recommendation, university course transcripts, GMAT and TOEFL test results.
Financing:
Tuition for our top participating global MBA programs ranges from $40,000-50,000 a year in the US or EUR 50,000-65,000 in Europe. This amount does not include apartment rental, living expenses, etc.
Every student we talked to was able to secure financing for their 1-2 years of study abroad. Many options exist, including:
Sponsorship:
- Your current employer may have a program in place to support top potentials (this is common in consultancy firms, banks, private equity organizations and large DAX listed corporations). In return, they will typically ask you to come back after your studies for at least 2 years
- Fulbright and Rotary scholarships are available in the Netherlands
- All MBA schools offer scholarships (e.g. for certain nationals, professions or diversity groups)
Loans at preferential rates:
- Netherlands-based banks often offer special student loans at attractive rates if one of the parents takes on a guarantor role, and sometimes include interesting propositions such as. delayed repayment (2 years after you graduate, etc.)
- US banks, often located close to or on the university campus, offer similar assistance
- All MBA programs offer sponsorship and loan advice, and some even offer student loans at attractive rates with delayed repayment options
Summer internships:
- During your MBA program, you can apply for well paid summer internship(s). Employers often cover travel expenses and apartment rental.
Your own financing through:
- Own savings
- Support from parents or grandparents
- Renting out your apartment or house while abroad
Remember that there are tax optimization schemes available (ask your accountant) and that once you graduate, full-time hires typically get awarded a signing bonus upon joining the firm.
